Why a sensor code needs context
A sensor can fail internally, but circuit faults, connector damage, supply problems, exhaust leaks, dosing faults and implausible system conditions can affect the data seen by the control unit. The exact possibilities vary by vehicle and code description.
Compare rather than guess
Diagnosis may involve checking fault status and freeze-frame information, comparing upstream and downstream readings where fitted, reviewing temperature and dosing data and electrically testing the relevant circuit. A value on a screen is useful only when it makes sense for the operating condition.
Replacement may need more than fitting
Where a sensor is proved faulty, the vehicle may require the correct part plus supported coding, adaptation, software or a defined drive procedure. Those requirements depend on the make, model, year and emissions system.
Avoid paying twice
