Why the replacement may not have solved it
The fitted valve may be incorrect, faulty or unable to move as commanded. Wiring, power supply, vacuum control, airflow measurement, deposits, coolers and related engine faults can also affect expected EGR flow. The possibilities depend on the exact system fitted.
Test commanded action against actual response
Active tests and live data can compare what the control unit requests with what the system reports or physically does. Electrical and mechanical checks then follow the evidence. A fault code describes the detected condition; it does not certify the named component as failed.
Use the repair history properly
Part numbers, invoices, previous codes and the timing of the returning warning can all narrow the investigation. Tell us whether adaptations were completed, whether the fault changed after the repair and whether other emissions work was carried out at the same time.
A real Engine Clean example
A Mercedes CLA 220 d arrived after an EGR replacement and DPF clean, but P0401 returned. Active testing showed the recently fitted EGR initially responded and then failed to operate consistently. That evidence created a targeted repair and verification plan instead of another blind parts order.

Can an EGR fault return after fitting a new valve?
Yes. The replacement itself, wiring, control, airflow or another related condition may still prevent the system operating as expected.
Does P0401 prove the EGR valve is faulty?
No. P0401 records insufficient EGR flow. Testing is needed to establish why the expected flow was not achieved.
Should the DPF be cleaned again?
Not automatically. EGR and DPF systems interact, but a returning EGR-flow fault should be diagnosed from evidence rather than treated as another cleaning instruction.
