DPF Pressure-Sensor Fault or Blocked Filter? Measure Before Replacing

The vehicle calculates filter loading from several inputs. If the pressure information is wrong, the diagnosis can be wrong too. Measure the system before condemning either the sensor or the DPF.

What differential pressure can tell us

Pressure measured across the DPF helps the control system assess exhaust restriction. The reading should be considered at suitable operating conditions and alongside calculated soot or ash values, temperatures, regeneration history and related fault codes.

The sensor is only part of the circuit

A failed sensor is one possibility. Split, blocked, crossed or damaged pressure pipes, wiring and connector faults can also produce implausible information. A visual inspection and electrical or pressure testing may be needed before any part is ordered.

Why a low reading is not always good news

A reading that appears low can still be wrong if the pipework is disconnected or leaking. Equally, a high reading needs to be tested against engine speed and known conditions rather than accepted as proof of a blocked filter without context.

Choose the route from the result

The evidence may support sensor or wiring repair, pipework work, controlled regeneration, cleaning, filter replacement or investigation of another fault that caused the loading. No fixed price or guaranteed cleaning result is offered before the vehicle and system are identified.

Does a DPF pressure-sensor code mean the filter is blocked?

No. It identifies a pressure-related condition. The sensor, pipes, wiring, data and filter restriction need separating through testing.

Can live data prove a DPF is blocked?

Live data is important, but it must be checked for plausibility and interpreted with operating conditions, fault history and physical tests.

Should I replace the sensor first because it is cheaper?

Not without evidence. A cheaper guessed part is still wasted money if the pipework, circuit, filter or another fault is responsible.
