A visual match is not a compatibility check
Labels, hardware numbers, software references, connector arrangements and vehicle application may all matter. Some manufacturers supersede an older ECU with a later compatible unit, so a different number is not automatically wrong—but it must be verified.
Test the donor before investing in data work
A reputable salvage source and a clean, undamaged case are useful, but they do not prove the electronics are healthy. Suitable donor units should be assessed before cloning or programming where test access allows.
Cloning is not the only fitting route
A compatible donor may receive supported data from the original ECU. In other cases it may need to be prepared, programmed and coded to the vehicle as a replacement unit. The route depends on the ECU family, the condition of the original and the vehicle.
Customer-supplied donor units
Engine Clean accepts customer and trade supplied units. If a supplied donor is faulty, incompatible or cannot complete the intended process, assessment and work fees may still apply. We cannot warranty a part we did not supply; our own work remains covered under the applicable terms.

Must the donor ECU part number be identical?
Identical units are the normal starting point for most cloning work, but verified manufacturer supersessions or compatible alternatives can sometimes be programmed to the vehicle.
Can you test a used ECU before fitting it?
Suitable units can be assessed in-house, subject to the ECU and available test coverage.
What happens if my donor ECU is faulty?
Testing or work fees may apply even if a customer-supplied donor is faulty or incompatible. Customer-supplied parts are not covered by Engine Clean's parts warranty.
